As Microsoft kicks off its Ignite 2018 conference today, it's announcing that one of OneDrive's most useful features is now headed to Mac users. Files On-Demand, which lets you see your OneDrive files from Finder without eating up any local storage, is now available for testing with Insiders before it rolls out to everyone at a later date.

Today, we're announcing OneDrive Files On-Demand for Mac, a way to access all your personal and work files from the cloud in Finder without using storage space and only download them when you need them. Files On-Demand gives the Mac an intelligent connection to the cloud and is just one more example of the power of Office on the Mac platform.
There are two basic ways that you, as an admin, can deploy the OneDrive sync app to Mac users in your organization: Have users install and set up the OneDrive sync app themselves by following the instructions in Sync files with OneDrive on Mac OS X. To install the OneDrive sync app for Mac, a user. OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) is the easiest way to access your OneDrive from your Mac. When you install OneDrive, a OneDrive folder is created on your computer. Everything you put in this folder is automatically kept in sync between your computers and OneDrive.com, so you can get to your latest files from virtually anywhere.
Files On-Demand will land for all OneDrive for Mac users at a later point, but you can get an early look by opting in to become and Office Insider. You'll want to make sure you're updated to Mac OS Mojave 10.14 and download the OneDrive Files On-Demand for Mac preview build to get started. During setup for new users, Files On-Demand will be turned on by default.

Microsoft OneDrive at IU is a cloud storage service included with Office 365. Microsoft OneDrive offers 5 TB of storage where you can store, share, and sync your files. Microsoft OneDrive storage is approved for Public or University-Internal data.
Access Microsoft OneDrive at IU
There is no setup to access Microsoft OneDrive, unless you wish to sync files to your computer or mobile device (refer to the appropriate instructions on this page).
To access Microsoft OneDrive at IU, go to https://office.iu.edu and click Log in. At the first prompt, enter your IU username followed by
@iu.edu
(do this no matter what your email address is). At the password prompt, enter your IU passphrase. Do not click anything on the sign-in pages other than Next and Sign in. Click OneDrive.:Sync Microsoft OneDrive files
Syncing and sharing Critical or Restricted data on individual user workstations or mobile devices (for example, laptops, smartphones, tablets, personal digital assistants, thumb drives) is not permitted without prior formal written approval and appropriate technical safeguards. You can view and update documents saved in the cloud using Microsoft OneDrive from just about anywhere. Follow the appropriate instructions for the device you wish to sync:

To sync Microsoft OneDrive files with your Windows computer, you need either the Microsoft OneDrive sync app (included in Windows and also available for download as a stand-alone client) or the Microsoft OneDrive for Business app (includedwith Office 365, Office 2019, Office 2016, and Office 2013 for Windows).
- Using a supported web browser, go to https://office.iu.edu and click Log in. At the first prompt, enter your IU username followed by
@iu.edu
(do this no matter what your email address is). At the password prompt, enter your IU passphrase. Do not click anything on the sign-in pages other than Next and Sign in. - Click Microsoft OneDrive to open Microsoft OneDrive.
- At the bottom left, click the link to switch to Classic View.
- While in Classic View, at the top, click Sync.
- When prompted, click Sync now.
- A 'Launch Application' window should open. If you have the Microsoft OneDrive sync app installed, select it and click OK.
- When the Microsoft OneDrive sync app opens, you can choose to change where the files will be synced locally. When you have confirmed the settings, click Sync Now.
- The Microsoft OneDrive sync app will download a copy of your files hosted in the cloud, and sync them to the specified location on your computer, in a local Microsoft OneDrive folder named

macOS
To sync Microsoft OneDrive files with your Mac, you'll need to get the Microsoft OneDrive app from the Mac App Store. After you have installed it, you need to make several configuration changes using the Terminal window.
If you're not familiar with or comfortable using Terminal windows, UITS recommends that you wait until a later release of the Microsoft OneDrive app for Mac that will natively support Office 365 accounts. For more, see Sync files with Microsoft OneDrive on Mac OS X.
If you've never had an individual account signed into Microsoft OneDrive, follow these steps. If you already have an individual Microsoft OneDrive account signed in, skip to the next section.
- From a Terminal window, type the following and tap Return:

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps are available as free downloads from the App Store as part of your Office 365 service. To access your Office 365 account from these apps:
- After installing Word, Excel or PowerPoint from the App Store, open the app.
